Southwestern Assemblies of God University Destiny Garza i National Christian College Athletics Association 2016 10k National Champion

“I am completely amazed with Destiny,” exclaims head coach Jason Covarrubias , “Being able to recall where she started three years ago and now she is the NCCAA 10k National Champion.  They just don’t pass those out.  The crazy thing is that she still has so much more in the tank.”

This is only the second year for Garza to run the 10k.  Last year she finished second at the NCCAA 10k event.  According to Garza, nobody is more shocked than her, “When I look back I laugh at the time coach told me last year that I was going to run the 10k.  I thought he was crazy.  But coming in second last year helped with buying into what he was thinking.  Coach always says, ‘work still works’ and this if just the result.”

�����ұ�’s Jerry Nava also qualified to compete at the national meet.  Nava finished 16 ^th place in the 10k with a time of 33:35.  This year was Nava’s first time to compete at the National Track and Field meet.

On Saturday, May 13, 2016, Nava will run the 5K at 3:50pm.  Garza will compete in the 5K at 3:25pm.  Garza is coming into the meet with the 11 ^th fastest time of 18:07.81. All times are in Eastern Standard Time.
