Keyunta Watkins named as a top basketball player to watch
Waxahachie, Texas 鈥 January 17, 2017- Fans of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men鈥檚 basketball have known senior Keyunta Watkins is a player worth watching for the past two seasons. 聽Now, Watkins is getting the attention of the nation. 聽He has been named as a 鈥渢op 100 players to watch鈥 by Small College Basketball . Small College Basketball covers all levels of college basketball except NCAA Division I. 聽SAGU head coach Donnie Bostwick believes that Watkins is very deserving of the mention, 鈥淜eyunta is one of the best shooters in college basketball. He also is a great leader and point guard. He has to handle the challenge of getting us in our offense, taking over when necessary and he always faces the opponent鈥檚 defensive strategy centered on him. He is a quality young man that has overachieved in many areas in his life. His faith in Christ has grown and I am very proud of him.鈥
This season, Watkins is averaging 18 points per game, over three assists per game and 30 steals for the season. 聽He leads SAGU in both scoring and assists. 聽He also ranks in six different categories in all the NAIA; he is no. two in total 3-point field goals made (66), no. three in 3-point field goals made per game with 3.7, he ranks no. 10 in total scoring (332 points), no. 26 in points per game (18.4), no. 32 in total steals (30) and he ranks no. 35 in steals per game (1.7).
Small College Basketball will continue to narrow down the list of 100 student-athletes throughout the seas. 聽On February 15, 2017 they will release a list of 50 players, on March 15, 25 players will be announced. 聽On April 1, 2017, they will release a video of the finalists for the Bevo Francis Award.
