Waxahachie, Texas- December 7, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team was able to snap out of a two-game losing streak to top Jarvis Christian College (JCC), 47-27.  After the non-conference match, the Lady Lions are now 5-5.  JCC is 2-8 for the season.

The first quarter wasn’t a big one for scoring as both teams only scored seven points.  By the second quarter, both offenses got going.  With the score tied at 11, SAGU’s Bethany Krock hit a three pointer to put the Lady Lions up 14-11.  Less than a minute later, Krock scored again to give SAGU a five point lead. At halftime SAGU was ahead 23-18.

“I thought our defense was great tonight. We have talked all along about being a good defensive team and tonight I really feel like we locked in on defense,” says head coach Tiffany Phillips , “ Alexis McAfee just does a great job on their best player every night and I think our team really feeds off of her energy.”

In the third quarter, SAGU’s defense dominated and held the Lady Bulldogs to only two points.  By the end of the third quarter the Lady Lions lead grew to 17 points.

“Off the bench I think Bethany Krock and Zengy Enabulele have really been providing an offensive spark for us and that is huge for those two to find their rhythm and play with that kind of confidence,” explains Phillips.

Krock led SAGU in scoring with 11 points. Charity Page had nine points and 13 rebounds. Dy’Teesha Diggles scored eight points. Laken Ward had nine rebounds.

On Saturday, December 12, 2015, SAGU will host Arlington Baptist at 6:00pm.
