Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team Bacone College

“We had great team wins in all three games,” explains head coach Sam Blackmon , “and we had a little bit of everything.  Pitching wise, getting two complete games from Raul (Castro) and Auggie (Martinez) on the first day was huge.  Augie throwing a no hitter is something you just don’t see every day in college baseball (in game two).”

Game one (W 7-2)

�����ұ�’s Raul Castro pitched the entire game and picked up the win on the mound.  Castro had 11 strike outs.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning.  �����ұ�’s run came after back-to-back doubles.  The first from CJ Bills and then by Raul Castro to drive Bills home.

The Lions big inning in game two was in the second, where they scored four runs off of two hits and one BC error.

In the bottom of the third, �����ұ�’s first batter up, Raul Castro , hit a home run over the center field fence on a 0-1 count.

Reminiscent of Castro’s home run, Tanner Lindle was the first batter up in the bottom of the sixth.  On a 2-2 count, Lindle hit a home run over the right field fence.

Both Lindle and Castro were two for three at the plate with one home run and one double each.

Game Two (W 11-2)

In the second game, �����ұ�’s Augie Martinez pitched a complete game no-hitter, with four strike-outs.  He walked only one and have up one unearned run.

SAGU started the game off with a bang and scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Raul Castro had one RBI and Ethan Greiner had two RBI’s.

In the bottom of the second, �����ұ�’s Josh Terry stole home to make the score 4-0.

SAGU picked up three more runs in the bottom of the third.  Once again Castro hit a single that scored two runners and Ethan Greiner hit a double to bring in one run.

The Lions scored four runs off of two hits and one Bacone error.

At the plate, Castro went two for three, with four RBI’s and three runs scored.  Greiner went a perfect three for three with one double and three RBI’s. Josh Terry went three for five with three runs scored.

Game Three (W 6-5)

The nine inning make-up game on Sunday was the closest of all three.  Bacone was the first to score in the top of the second when Nicholas Been flied out to center but scored Jean-Michel Acquin in the process.

The teams were able to match each other point for point and as SAGU went into the bottom of the ninth, the score was tied 5-5.

With one out, �����ұ�’s Chris Wallace stepped up to the plate and on a 0-0 count hit a homerun over the left field fence.  The game ended with Wallace’s walk-off homer.

Both teams had 12 hits.  In addition to Wallace’s home run, he also had a double. Ethan Greiner went three for four at the plate, with three triples, two RBI’s and one run scored.

�����ұ�’s Collin Gifford and Spenser Hart each pitched four innings. Payton Barrios pitched the final inning in relief.

On Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, 2017, SAGU will travel to Southwestern Christian University. Both days game time is at 1pm.  SCU is 21-14 overall and 4-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
