SAGU Outdoor Track Starts at HSU Early Season Invitational

The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lion’s trackĀ teams in “”²ś¾±±ō±š²Ō±š,Ģż°Õ³Ż, onĀ Saturday,Ā February 23rd,Ā for the Hardin-SimmonsĀ EarlyĀ Season Invitation .Ā This meet will officiallyĀ startĀ theĀ program’s sixth season ofĀ competitionĀ in outdoorĀ track.Ā Head coach “³²¹²õ“DzŌĢż°ä“DZ¹²¹°ł°ł³Ü²ś¾±²¹²õ has been lookingĀ forwardĀ to thisĀ weekendĀ allĀ schoolĀ year, “ThisĀ year’sĀ trackĀ team willĀ beĀ the largest inĀ termsĀ ofĀ numbersĀ inĀ programĀ history!Ā LastĀ year, weĀ competedĀ with fiveĀ runnersĀ andĀ hadĀ a tremendous season, as theĀ menĀ finished 13th at the NCCAAĀ National Championships and theĀ womenĀ hadĀ theĀ program’sĀ firstĀ national qualifying sprinter!”Ā TheĀ LionsĀ andĀ LadyĀ LionsĀ will beĀ sendingĀ elevenĀ runnersĀ to Abilene.
CovarrubiasĀ mentionedĀ a fewĀ membersĀ to keep an eye out on, ” Zackary HammondĀ (Fr.) hasĀ theĀ potentialĀ toĀ becomeĀ an All-American in the 10K, 3000m Steeplechase, and the 5k thisĀ season. “”»å°ł¾±²¹²ŌĢż°ä±š»å¾±±ō±ō“ĒĢż(³§°ł.) ,Ā whoĀ alsoĀ competes in those threeĀ eventsĀ isĀ inĀ contentionĀ toĀ doĀ the same. Cody WalkerĀ (Jr.) ,Ā plans toĀ improveĀ his 2018Ā NCCAAĀ All-American status in theĀ 3000SCĀ toĀ national champion.Ā IĀ encourageĀ everyone to keep an eye out on Arturo ValdezĀ (Fr.) in theĀ 800m,Ā 1500mĀ and theĀ 3000SC, he canĀ beĀ theĀ team’s wild-card!”
On theĀ women’sĀ side, CovarrubiasĀ highlighted aĀ coupleĀ of potentialĀ standoutĀ runners as well, ” Alexandria CastilloĀ (Fr.) and are going toĀ playĀ aĀ hugeĀ role in thisĀ season’sĀ success.Ā Castillo, anĀ 800mĀ andĀ 1500mĀ runner will also take a crack at the steeplechase, andĀ Pope, a former high school sprinter, willĀ makeĀ theĀ transitionĀ to the 400m,Ā 800mĀ andĀ 1500mĀ this season.Ā I cannotĀ waitĀ toĀ seeĀ all of theĀ ladiesĀ compete.Ā Through all of myĀ yearsĀ of coaching, I haveĀ seenĀ so manyĀ runnersĀ become turn intoĀ racersĀ on theĀ track.”
