SAGU soccer teams topple Texas College
Waxahachie, Texas- September 7, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer teams both walked away victorious on Saturday鈥檚 matches against Texas College.聽 The women鈥檚 team beat TC 3-1.聽 The men鈥檚 team won 4-2.聽 Both teams are 2-1 for the season.
For the women, Laura Barba, Nadine Jaimes and Joy Reyes all scored a goal.聽 Jaimes now has three goals for the season and Barba has two.聽 Goalkeeper鈥檚 Kathleen Espinoza and Alaina Jones each played a half for SAGU.聽 Espinoza had two saves.
鈥淓very player had a part in the win. We had several shots and a couple of good saves by our keepers. I’m excited to see so much progress in a short period of time,鈥 says head coach Mandy Fortner.聽 鈥淲e have a tough few games ahead of us and my hope I that we continue to improve and prepare for conference.鈥
On Thursday, September 10, 2015, the Lady Lions play Friends University (Kansas) at 2:00pm.聽 FU is currently 2-0 for the season.
The Lions were led by Ramone Cardenas, who had two goals for the day.聽 Senior鈥檚 Robert Ambrosie and Parker Sturgeon each had a goal.聽 Senior goalkeeper Cesar Espana had three saves for the game.
Men鈥檚 soccer head coach Clem Oancea believes his team is starting to click on the field, 鈥淵ou can’t have a perfect game, but what we can have is commitment to follow the game plan from the start to finish.聽 That paid off and I鈥檓 glad we鈥檝e seen success by doing the small things right.鈥
On Thursday, SAGU plays Friends University (Kansas) at聽 4:00pm.聽 FU is currently 0-2 for the season.聽 Oancea is hopeful his full roster will be healthy and ready to go by then.
