SAGU Hosts Regional Fine Arts Festival

Waxahachie, Texas – May 24, 2016 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) hosted students from 9 participating Assemblies of God Districts in the first bi-annual . Participants submit creative works and compete in 50+ categories in art, communication, dance, drama, exhibition, instrumental, vocal, writing and more. Students are evaluated in each category and given feedback to improve their gifts and talents. Those receiving high marks will also receive from SAGU.

SAGU’s Vice President for Enrollment Eddie Davis says, “We are honored to host this event on our campus. Regional Fine Arts provides a great opportunity for high school students from our region to develop their gifts and talents and have experts in those areas speak into their lives. It’s also a great opportunity for students to compete for scholarships which will help them fulfill their college ambitions.”

Along with competitions, SAGU hosted workshops from faculty and staff regarding the language of music, how the music industry works, a short sermon master class and vocal instruction.

This year’s event featured a surprise appearance by viral ” ” video star Candace Payne speaking on her Facebook Live video that accumulated a record-breaking 130 million views. North Texas District Ministries Director Jon Catron interviewed Payne live during the closing service about the extraordinary experience. .

The next will be in May 2018.
