mbb-rambo-2012 WAXAHACHIE, Texas 聽— A day after been named the Player of the Week in the Sooner Athletic Conference , Dominique Rambo was honored as the National Player of the Week by the NAIA .

The Southwestern Assemblies of God University senior was one of eight POW鈥檚 who comprised a pool of conference and independent award winners.

His selection was announced by Chad Waller , Director of Communications and Sports Information at the NAIA Office. The choice was based on games played during December 30 through January 5.

Waller reported that Rambo, a 5-foot-10 point guard from Dallas, Texas, averaged 36.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.5 steals in two Lions victories last week. Both wins were against teams that are ranked nationally in this week’s Coaches Poll.

In the 89-76 win over Sooner Athletic Conference preseason favorite Oklahoma Baptist University on January 2, Rambo poured in 40 points on 15-of-30 shooting. He added four rebounds and three assists.

The 2012-13 NAIA Co-Player of the Year then posted 32 points in the 82-77 win against Mid-America Christian University (Ok) on Jan. 4.

Perhaps more impressive than the points were Bo鈥檚 seven steals and seven assists against MACU.

Fans can view the highlights of that game on the SAGU Sports Network 鈥檚 Facebook fan page.

The Lions are driven by their defense and are as cohesive in their belief in one another as they are in God.

Head Coach Donnie Bostwick spoke of how Rambo鈥檚 honor relates to the dynamics that propel the team.

鈥淚 know I speak for Rambo when I say this is a team award,鈥 he pointed out. 鈥淭he reason for our success is because we play for One and play as one . Our goal is to bring God glory on the basketball floor.鈥

Now in his third season at SAGU, Bostwick explained what that means.

鈥淚f it is ‘Bo driving, Hondo ( Caleb Gentry ) diving, Jon ( Walter ) dunking, ( Caleb ) Feemster launching a three or 鈥淓鈥 ( Emmanuel Adoyi ) controlling the paint and the boards,鈥 he said. 鈥淎ll we see are the SAGU Lions tapping into a power bigger than any individual.鈥

鈥淥ur bench brings great energy as well. All of this contributes to this honor.鈥

鈥淚f our goal is personal gain – then our ceiling is limited,鈥 Coach Bostwick summarized. 鈥淚f we play as one and use our success as a platform for our King, then there are no limits.鈥

Not your normal motivation. Not your normal players. Not your normal team.

Other nominees for the honor included Jake Owsley (University of Montana Western), C.J. Miller (Westmont College, Cal), Zack Kleine (Evangel University, Mo) Roman Vaughn (Talladega College, Ala), Devonte Young (Lyon College, Ark), Josh Reagan (University of Rio Grande, Oh) and Marcus Dortch (Southern Polytechnic State University, Ga).
